Righteousness as Clothing

Job 29:14
I put on righteousness as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban.

Wow.  I usually treat verses like this like a Christian cliche (how convicting).  Having been meditating on “righteousness” verses for almost a month now, this verse has a different impact now.  In need to “wear” righteousness.  And interestingly, just like Sheba paired up righteousness with justice, so does Job.  Hmmmm… to truly, internally, understand righteousness, I may need to do a word study on “justice” next.  Well, anyways…

In order to wear righteousness, it dawns on me that I have embrace every aspect that I’ve discovered so far. They are…

  • Believe the Lord and it will be credited to me as righteousness. (Genesis 15:6)
  • Obey what God has commanded me, that will be my righteousness (Deuteronomy 6:25)
  • My righteousness is not on account of me, but on account of God giving me things to believe, given me commandments to obey, and then keeping his commitments to me when I respond as above. (Deuteronomy 9:1-6)
  • God will choose to reward me for the righteousness He credits me.  I do not deserve it. (1 Samuel 26:22-24, 2 Samuel 22:21-26)
  • Give back to God some of what He gives me. (Deuteronomy 33:19)
  • Live in reverence of the Lord; exercise your ruler-ship from that place. Such decisions are spiritual. (2 Samuel 23:3)
  • Be a light to others. (2 Samuel 23:4)
  • Chase God in what I strive for, not my legacy. (2 Samuel 23:6,7)
  • Maintain. (1 Kings 10:9, 2 Chronicles 9:8, Job 27:6)

Wow.  It’s hard to think about all that at one time.  Well, that’s because I included God’s part in this.  Okay. I’ll extract out just my part:

  1. Believe Him
  2. Obey Him
  3. Give back to Him
  4. Revere Him
  5. Chase Him
  6. Be a light, be just
  7. Lather, rinse, repeat!
