Ezekiel 3 - The Warning

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

 16 At the end of seven days the word of the LORD came to me: 17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 18 When I say to a wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his evil ways in order to save his life, that wicked man will die for [a] his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. 19 But if you do warn …

Jeremiah 33 - Proof of Evolution

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Thus far, I have been spending this year in a study on righteousness.  My reason for doing so on an Evolutionary Creationist website is that a lot of answers to my Ultimate Questions for God seemed wrapped up in the concept of righteousness, and so I wanted to make sure that truly understood it, the best that I could.  And so I’m going through the verses on righteousness.  Well, in studying the “righteousness” verse of Jeremiah 33, I came upon the following passage, which to me speaks directly to creation, and indirectly to the age of our earth [emphasis added]:
 19 The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: 20 “This is what the LORD says: ‘If …

Jeremiah 33 - Jesus is Coming to Israel (Part II)

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

 14 ” ‘The days are coming,’ declares the LORD, ‘when I will fulfill the gracious promise I made to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.

 15 ” ‘In those days and at that time
       I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line;
       he will do what is just and right in the land.

 16 In those days Judah will be saved
       and Jerusalem will live in safety.
       This is the name by which it will be called:
       The LORD Our Righteousness.’

 17 For this is what the LORD says: ‘David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of the house …

Jeremiah 23 - Jesus is coming to Israel

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

 1 “Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!” declares the LORD. 2 Therefore this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says to the shepherds who tend my people: “Because you have scattered my flock and driven them away and have not bestowed care on them, I will bestow punishment on you for the evil you have done,” declares the LORD. 3 “I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and will bring them back to their pasture, where they will be fruitful and increase in number. 4 I …

Jeremiah 9:24 - Boasting in the Lord

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

 23 This is what the LORD says:
       “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom
       or the strong man boast of his strength
       or the rich man boast of his riches,

 24 but let him who boasts boast about this:
       that he understands and knows me,
       that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness,
       justice and righteousness on earth,
       for in these I delight,”
       declares the LORD.
I am to boast, if I boast at all, that I understand God and know God.  That is a boast that I generally stay away from.  In other words, though I understand and know God, and I refrain from boasting it because I am imperfect and may not …

Isaiah 63

Isaiah 63
God’s Day of Vengeance and Redemption
 1 Who is this coming from Edom,
       from Bozrah, with his garments stained crimson?
       Who is this, robed in splendor,
       striding forward in the greatness of his strength?
       “It is I, speaking in righteousness,
       mighty to save.”

 2 Why are your garments red,
       like those of one treading the winepress?

 3 “I have trodden the winepress alone;
       from the nations no one was with me.
       I trampled them in my anger
       and trod them down in my wrath;
       their blood spattered my garments,
       and I stained all my clothing.

 4 For the day of vengeance was in my heart,
       and the year of my redemption …

Isaiah 62 - Hope for Israel and me

Monday, June 15th, 2009

 1 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
       for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet,
       till her righteousness shines out like the dawn,
       her salvation like a blazing torch.

 2 The nations will see your righteousness,
       and all kings your glory;
       you will be called by a new name
       that the mouth of the LORD will bestow.

- - -

 4 No longer will they call you Deserted,
       or name your land Desolate.
       But you will be called Hephzibah,
       and your land Beulah;
       for the LORD will take delight in you,
       and your land will be married.

 5 As a young man marries a maiden,
       so will your sons marry …

 1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
       because the LORD has anointed me
       to preach good news to the poor.
       He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
       to proclaim freedom for the captives
       and release from darkness for the prisoners,
 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor (Christ’s birth?)
       and the day of vengeance of our God, (Christ’s reign?)
       to comfort all who mourn,
The following message is to liberate the poor, brokenhearted, captives, and prisoners, by speaking of Christ’s birth and His subsequent reign. (I beleive this to be a double-prophecy, where Isaiah was speaking of events to come soon as well as events to come much much …

Isaiah 60 - One day, we will be refined

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Recall Ecc. 7:3, where it talks about the refining value of sorrow.  Well, eventually our sorrow will end, for we will be refined and in His presence…

17 Instead of bronze I will bring you gold,
       and silver in place of iron.
       Instead of wood I will bring you bronze,
       and iron in place of stones.
       I will make peace your governor
       and righteousness your ruler.

 18 No longer will violence be heard in your land,
       nor ruin or destruction within your borders,
       but you will call your walls Salvation
       and your gates Praise.

 19 The sun will no more be your light by day,
       nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you,
       for …

Chapter 59 of Isaiah struck me.  First of all, when I read it, I felt like Isaiah just kept repeating over and over again “You’re not righteous.  You’re not righteous.”  But it was more than that.  As I read it, it changed.  It changed from a record of deceit and sin to one of justice, followed by a promise to the repentent.  But again, that’s not really what really impacted me.  Let me lead you to it.  First, here Isiah 59, up to verse 15… well not exactly.  I’ve broken it down into the component parts of righteousness and what was true of Israel at this time.  Notice that Isaiah is writing of Israel in general.  As you can see in …
