Phillipians 1 - The Fruit of Righteousness, Begotten by Fruit, Begets Fruit
 9And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
The “fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ”? Didn’t, we just talked about that in Ephesians 5 - May the Righteous Shine? But let us zero in on the scripture, Ephesians 6:9-11…
 8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10and find out what pleases the Lord. 11Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.

8Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. 9And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 10The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
So, let us look at these verses on fruit and righteousness and see what kind of picture God is painting for us.
- Fruit of righteousness –>Â Enables you to discern what is best.
- Fruit of light –> Goodness, righteousness, truth
- Fruit of repentance –> Righteousness
As it turns out, these are not all the same fruit per se, but they are quite inter-related.
- Believe that Jesus died for your sins
- The fruit of this repentance is righteousness (MT 3:8)
- The fruit of righteousness is that you can discern what is right (i.e., light)Â (PH 1:10)
- The fruit of this light produces obedience (EP 6:8-9)
And so, once again, we see the equation of righteousness played out in scripture.
