Creation Through Separation… in Genesis 1:1?
Interesting Post: http://doctor.claudemariottini.com/2009/10/devastating-news-for-traditional.html. It cites a possible discovery that “In the beginning, God separated the heavens and the earth.”
That’s right. Separated. Not created.
Well, if you think about it, God did separate the heavens from the earth. Scientifically, if you accept that the heavens existed before the earth formed (but would be hidden until Day 4), then you can see that God actually set the earth apart for His purposes. He really did separate the heavens from the earth! And He really created them! Both have always been true, so does it matter which fact the verse is recording? Perhaps it’s recording both perspectives!
Both?
Well, read my post from a few years ago Separation in Creation Confirms Trinity. Basically, I show how God’s creative actions were all actions of separation.
Day One: God separated the light from the darkness
Day Two: God separated the waters below from the waters above
Day Three: God separated land from sea.
Day Four: God separated the light from the darkness (or night from day)
Day Five: No explicit separation stated.
Day Six: God separated Mankind from all other living things, by placing Man to rule over them
Day Seven: God separated this day from the others, by sanctifying it as a day of rest.
Now the interesting thing is that the person originally reporting on this ‘mis-translation’ was suggesting that it would be devestating blow to Christians. Not at all. After all, creation through separation confirms the Trinity, right? And I made that case years before this ’blow’.Â
So, what if the word use for created, actually means separated? Far from destroying my faith, it confirms it!
