Genesis 10 - Noah’s Family Tree - Shelah
Noah > Shem > Arphaxad > Shelah.
Shelah is part of the Messianic line (Luke 3:35). In total there are 9 references to Shelah or his line. There are no verses about any region associated with him, and not references to anything he did, other than being born, having Eber as a son, then dying 403 years later. The following verses pertain to his lineage and life spans…
- Genesis 10:24, 1 Chronicles 1:18Â - Son of Arphaxad
- Genesis 11:12Â - Born when when Araphaxad was 35
- Genesis 11:13Â - Arphaxad lived another 403 years
- Genesis 11:14, 1 Chronicles 1:18Â - Became Eber’s father at 30
- Genesis 11:15Â - Lived another 403 years after Eber was born
- 1 Chronicles 1:24, Luke 3:35Â - Part of the Messianic line
There is also another Shelah in scripture. He was the father of the Shelanite clan of Judah (who in turn was a son of Jacob). His story is told in Genesis 38. Basically Judah refused to give his son Shelah to his widowed daughter-in-law Tamar, even though Shelah’s brothers were killed by the Lord for being evil and Tamar had not been provided a son through them. So, Tamar tricked Judah into sleeping with her. Here are the references to Judah’s son Shelah…
- Genesis 38:5
- Genesis 38:11
- Genesis 38:14
- Genesis 38:26
- Genesis 46:12
- Numbers 26:20
- 1 Chronicles 2:3
- 1 Chronicles 4:21
- Nehemiah 11:5
That seems to be it in Shelah!!
