A Tale of Two Timelines
So, now I have two timelines that work out exactly. This is weird, and creates an unfortunate argument against my research, but I will live with it. Someone who wants to tear my theories down will say, “How do we know which one is right?” And to that, I fall back to my old standby: we do not have to know. My only goal is to show that with a reasonable set of arguments, I can demonstrate that my dating is reasonable. The fact that I have now done it with two sets of assumptions, neither of which was guaranteed to work, bolsters my bottom line, that it is reasonable to accept my date for the flood. But, for the record, here are my two sets of dates…
Interpreting all dates as solar years, with no attempt at reconciling with concurrent biblical dates:
- 2807 BC - Flood Begins
- 2806 BC - Flood Ends
- 2380 BC - 427 Solar years later: Covenant w/Abram; begins 215-year Sojourn I in Canaan
- 2165 BC - 215 Solar years later; End Sojourn I; Moved to Egypt, to live in Goshen with Joseph for 73 years
- 2092 BC - 73 Solar years later; Joseph dies; begins 215-year Sojourn II in Goshen
- 1877 BC - 215 Solar years later; End of Sojourn II; 400-year slavery begins
- 1477 BC - 400 Solar years later; Exodus from Egypt; 40 years in the wilderness begins
- 997 BC - Solomon starts temple 480 years after leaving Egypt (computed from secular dates)
Please note 997 BC can be computed from secular sources. I then subtract from each the number of years recorded in scripture, and it works out to 2807 BC. My only modification to typical chronologies is that I insert a period of time before the final 215-year sojourn, and put them in sequence with the 400 years of slavery. I also use Genesis 12 to date Abram’s birth, not Genesis 11 alone.Â
Here now is my chronology, using the King’s Calendar, with a few modifications:
- 2807 BC - Flood Begins
- 2806 BC - Flood Ends
- 2413 BC - 427 Artificial years later; Covenant w/Abram; begins 214-year period in Canaan
- 2215 BC - 214 Artificial years later; Moved to Egypt, to live in Goshen with Joseph
- 1818 BC - 430 Artificial years later; End of Sojourn; 400-year slavery begins
- 1449 BC - 400 Artificial years later (215+215); Exodus from Egypt; 40 years in the wilderness begins
- 1412 BC - 40 Artificial years later; End of 40 years in wilderness; Israelites enter promised land
- 970 BC - Solomon starts temple 479 artificial years after leaving Egypt
Like the above, I start with the King’s Calendar’s date for the temple, and make the same modifications I did as before: use Genesis 12 for Abram’s age, insert a period of time before the final 215-year sojourn (215 years instead of 73 this time), and put them in sequence with the 400 years of slavery. Some interesting differences with the King’s Calendar that I had to adopt for my chronology to work: 1)214 years in Canaan, 2) 40 years in wilderness before the 480 year count-down, 3) 479 years of countdown, because the last year overlaps with the building of the temple. As with my attempt using solar years and secular dates, it computes to 2807 BC. Go figure.
