Review - In the Beginning by Walt Brown - Hydroplate Theory (Part 4)

Hydroplate Overview Page 6
The Hydroplate Theory: Key Assumption
The key assumption is that until the flood, the world had a series of subterranean tunnels filled with super critical water. Everything then flows from there.
Usually, when I make assumptions on my job (I am an engineer), I usually have a basis for the assumption. It may seem arbitrary to others, but I usually have a reason. I cannot quite call it a conclusion however because a strong feeling that I’m right is not an argument. However, I can proceed to test my assumption. Brown starts with an assumption that I would call an assertion with no basis. But as I said, many of my own assumptions …

Review - In the Beginning by Walt Brown - Hydroplate Theory (Part 3)

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

I must say, that my respect for Walt Brown as a Christian is not coming out in my critique. I am, by nature, very critical when I think someone is wrong, and I really strongly hugely disagree with Walt Brown’s characterization of things regarding Evolution and various aspects of science. That said, I really respect the lengths and efforts he goes to in order to strengthen people’s faith in Christ. In that regard, he is doing exactly what I am trying to with my own creation theories… helping bolster the faith of people in religious distress.  For those people who would never receive my evidence for things however, then I would prefer they receive Brown’s and be right with God, …

Review - In the Beginning by Walt Brown - Life Sciences

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

I thumbed through the 48 pages covering “Life Sciences” on the internet hosted version of Walt Brown’s book, “In the Beginning”, and it covers a rich set of topics.  Thankfully, I have read through other people’s writings on many of those same topics, so hopefully I will be in a position to review Walt Brown’s take.

Life Sciences Page 1
Brown states that, “Macroevolution has never been observed in any breeding experiment.” To my knowledge, he is correct. In my opinion, that is because God is not “let”-ting it happen. After all, He pronounced His work done on Day 6, and rested from it on Day 7. I see no scripture telling me the land was told start up …

Genesis 10 - Noah’s Family Tree - Lud

Monday, December 27th, 2010

Noah > Shem > Arphaxad > Lud

Lud is mentioned in 3 verses in scripture, each in regards to ancestry…

Genesis 10:13 - Egypt was the father of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,
Genesis 10:22 - The sons of Shem: Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.
1 Chronicles 1:17 - The Semites The sons of Shem: Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram. The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshek.

According to Wikipedia, “The descendants of Lud are usually, following Josephus, connected with various Anatolian peoples, particularly Lydia (Assyrian Luddu)…” in Anatolia, though Lydia would not appear to be named for Lud. Lydia is off our map, above the Mediterranean as …

Genesis 10 - Noah’s Family Tree - Havilah

Sunday, December 5th, 2010

The name Havilah appears two time in Noah’s family tree:

Shem > Arphaxad > Shelah > Eber > Peleg > Joktan > Havilah
Ham > Cush > Havilah

The name Havilah appears in scripture 7 times.  Most of those times simply recall one of these genealogies…

Genesis 10:7 - Son of Cush
Genesis 10:29 - Son of Joktan
1 Chronicles 1:9 - Son of Cush
1 Chronicles 1:23 - Son of Joktan

The other three references are to locations…

Genesis 2:11 - Location of Pishon River
Genesis 25:18 - Ishmael’s descendants settled from Havilah to Egypt
1 Samuel 15:7 - Saul attacked the Amalekites from Havilah to Shur

I discussed Havilah a bit in Genesis 10 - Noah’s Family Tree - Ashur may have settled along the Tigris, and …

How Long were Adam and Even in the Garden of Eden? (Part 2)

Friday, June 18th, 2010

In How Long were Adam and Even in the Garden of Eden? I showed that it was reasonable to assume that Cain married a descendant of Adam and Eve.  Using reasonable assumptions, I showed that there could easily have been over 20,000 people descended from Adam and Eve when Cain killed Abel.  That is plenty from which to choose a wife, and then go to make a city for.  This should be an easy argument for a Young Earther to adopt (except where I suggest that Adam was 18 years old when placed in the garden), and in fact I find elements of this kind of …

Genesis 3 - The Fall of Man (Conclusion)

Monday, May 31st, 2010

…continued Genesis 3 - The Fall of Man (Part 7)
22 And the LORD God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” 23 So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. 24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth …

Genesis 3 - The Fall of Man (Part 3)

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

…continued from Genesis 3 - The Fall of Man (Part 2)
14 So the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all the livestock
       and all the wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
       and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
In my post Reconciling Evolution with Scripture (Part 4), I describe a concept of evolution that I am increasingly inclined to believe.  Basically, scientists are correct about species descending from other species.  However, the transitions did not happen by random mutation; …

Original Sin - A short review of Calvin and Wesley

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Having discussed Original Sin - Where O death is your sting? (A study of 1 Corinthians 15) and Original Sin - Romans 5:12 - We Inherit Spiritual Death, I would like to now discuss how previous Christian Theologians have addressed it.  In particular, I would like to address Calvin and Wesley.  I am admittedly no expert in them, but I want to address two quotes of theirs that I found on Wikipedia.

First, to rehash my own position, I believe that when God breathed life into Adam, He was giving Adam something to believe, much as He did Abram.  Adam believed it, and God saw …
