Bush Succeeding with North Korea

Friday, June 27th, 2008

I haven’t written for months, and thought I’d pick up my blogging again.  With so much else in life (Cub Scouts for my son, long hours for work, watching my boys grow, improving my home), I let this fall by the wayside.  In any case…

According to this report on North Korea’s destruction of its cooling tower:
McCain’s Democratic rival, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, used the breakthrough to stress “the importance of direct talks.'’ Obama, 46, has been criticized by McCain for proposing talks with Iran about its nuclear program.

“When we weren’t talking to North Korea, they were advancing their nuclear program,'’ Obama said in a Bloomberg Television interview.
This is doubtless a reference (in part) to Bush’s severance …

The Coming and Cunning of Herman Cummings

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

I recently encountered a person, on Steve Martin’s excellent blog An Evangelical Dialog on Evolution, named Herman Cummings.  Cummings espouses his own theory of how to interpret Genesis 1 that he calls the “Observations of Moses”.  To be honest, I thought he was kidding because of his self-declaration:
If you wish to waste your time with those that are not an expert on Genesis (there’s only one), then expect to be given false information.
I wasn’t sure if he was talking about himself or not, so I googled him and found that he was referring to himself, and he is not kidding.  Here is how he introduces himself in a letter connected to a Cobb County lawsuit regarding what …

One Geocreationist’s World View

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

I thought this quiz was interesting, and summed up my attitude quite well:

What’s your theological worldview?
created with QuizFarm.com

You scored as Evangelical Holiness/WesleyanYou are an evangelical in the Wesleyan tradition. You believe that God’s grace enables you to choose to believe in him, even though you yourself are totally depraved. The gift of the Holy Spirit gives you assurance of your salvation, and he also enables you to live the life of obedience to which God has called us. You are influenced heavly by John Wesley and the Methodists.

Of Christmas, Christmas Trees, and Creation

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

One of the things I like about writing of Creation is that Genesis 1 is about more than just Creation.  It tells the story of Jesus.  I write about this in detail in Separation in Creation Confirms Trinity, but I want to remind you of an ineteresting parallel to Day 2, as lived out by Jesus:
Separation #2
The second separating event for Him was His birth, a physical separation from His mother.  Through Mary’s pregnancy, Jesus grew, an expanse within the waters of Mary’s womb. And on the day of Christ’s birth, God separated Mary’s waters from her waters, and Jesus was born.
No matter what you believe about Creation, the age of …

Why don’t you comment?

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

I have an admission to make.  I don’t get any comments.  Okay, that’s not much of an admission.  If you read here regularly, then you have probably noticed that.  So let me ask, why don’t you comment?

Do I come off like I think I’m perfect? (I’m not)

Do you simply have nothing to say? That’s okay.

Do I seem closed to dialog?  (I’m not… especially because I could be wrong)

Is it because I require you to register first?  (I can change that… I just hate deleting spam)

Because I don’t get too personal?  Some bloggers put their life on display.  I have to admit that makes me uncomfortable.

Because I don’t use pictures?  Because I don’t have an imaginative template?  Because I seem like a …

Were there Republicans before Christ?

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Ecclesiastes 10:1 reads, in part:
A wise man’s heart inclines him to the right,
but a fool’s heart to the left.
Of course, if you’re talking politics, both sides have their share of wise men and fools, but this gave me a chuckle!

Intelligent Design and Evolution

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Just a quick question.

If the earth were capable of passively producing complex life forms, with no involvement from God, then why isn’t that evidence for Intelligent Design?

Just wondering.

A God of War, or Peace?

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

A common criticism of God is that He seems to love war.  After all, He sent David out to kill and enslave those who worshipped other Gods.  On the other hands, God didn’t want a house made with hands of blood.  And so, God had Solomon build Him His house.  Apparently, God finds war as distasteful as we, but knows when it is necessary.

Natural Selection as Evidence of Divine Will

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

1 Chronicles 14:15-16 says:
15 And when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike down the army of the Philistines.” 16 And David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.
When I read this, I notice something interesting.  God went before David to defeat the philistines.  Then, David’s armies go and defeats the philistines.  These appear to be separate actions, yet the same action.  They are separate because God has taken a action distinct from the army to defeat the philistines… but it is the same because it’s the same …

Dr. X’s Free Associations - The Genesis Account

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

I found a post on a very interesting theory on evolution in Genesis.  Though disagree that most of the references in the blog refer to evolution, I do agree with his opinion that the verses in Genesis 1 of the “let the earth bring forth” variety are in fact direct references to evolution.  After all, it’s the earth doing it, though at God’s command.

I recommend reading the article above in its entirety.  While I may not agree that every verse referenced is to evolution, I agree with what may be the writer’s larger point, that the concept of progression from the simple to the complicated is integral to God’s plans.
