In Reflections on History and the Jewish Calendar (Part 1), I reviewed part of my methodology for reconciling the scientific and historical basis for my timeline from The Flood through the completion of Solomon’s Temple. The crux of the issue is that I am sequentially laying out events that tradition insists overlap. I referred the reader to the key verses used by Jews and Christians to conclude that the 400 year period of Genesis 15:13 is part of the 430 year period of Exodus 12:42. I then tied it to Galatians 3:17, which Christians use to confirm that interpretation. My conclusion is that Moses knew those time periods happened in sequence, but did not want to make it …

As I have been writing about the dates of events in Genesis relative to recorded history, it dawned on me how arrogant it must look, interpreting the time lines of Moses a bit differently than tradition. But, when the dates I computed mapped historical and scientific dates to Biblical durations exactly, it was frankly quite exciting. Still, it suggests that there is some error in the Jewish interpretation (and Christian for that matter) of Genesis, in particular the years that Israel spent in Egypt. Here is the chronology of events I computed and blogged on several months ago, from The Flood to the completion of the Temple…

Noah > Ham > Cush > Nimrod >> Uruk
Uruk is not a person, but a city that scripture says was ruled by Nimrod. The thing that surprises me about Uruk is that its history goes back to before the flood. The rest of the cities I have traced back either start right after my date for the flood (2807 BC), or any sign of civilization before the flood is simple, and evidence after it shows sudden growth and advancement. Uruk is a little different.
Uruk is in southern Iraq, around the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, and contains history going back to even before Adam’s birth. But, here’s the thing. There is a distinct break in Uruk’s …

Noah > Ham > Cush > Nimrod >> Akkad
While no son of Nimrod is listed in scripture, several cities are listed as coming from him.
Genesis 10:8-12 - 8 Cush was the father of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on the earth. 9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD.” 10 The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Uruk, Akkad and Kalneh, in Shinar. 11 From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah 12 and Resen, which is between …

Noah > Ham > Cush > Nimrod
Nimrod is a father of many cities/nations, but not much is said about him in particular. There are 4 verses in the Bible discussing him, every one of them referring to his valor and mighty feats…
Genesis 10:8 - Cush was the father of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on the earth.
Genesis 10:9 - He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD.”
1 Chronicles 1:10 - Cush was the father of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on earth
Micah 5:6 - who will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod with drawn …

Having completed Shem’s part of Noah’s family tree, I am moving on to Ham’s. I may not do the entire tree as I did with Shem’s, but I want to at least cover those members who made noticeable impacts on the same territories Shem’s descendents did. For some perspective on what this means, look at the following map…
It seems from this map that Shem’s descendents settled throughout the Arabian peninsula, Ham West of the Red Sea, and Japheth around the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. This would have occurred over time after the people were dispersed at Babel. But now look at this map, which focuses in on the area around Babel a bit more…

What is free will? It is, among other things, God letting us do as we will.
What is evolution? It is, amont other things, God letting the earth do as it will.
Now, reasonable people can disagree on whether evolution is in fact real. However, if you have no philosophical disagreement with the order that rises out of man’s disorder, then why be opposed when the disorder is not from man?
If your objection is that we do not witness evolution today, can’t it just mean that God rested from creating?
If your objection is that evolution requires mortality before sin, doesn’t the Tree of Life require that if it’s to be of use in the Garden of Eden?
If you believe Jesus conquered our …

Exodus 9:31-32
The flax and barley were destroyed, since the barley had headed and the flax was in bloom. The wheat and spelt, however, were not destroyed, because they ripen later.
Have you ever been led by God, just to see Him destroy something you had nurtured? Take comfort in this verse. Sometimes, in the midst of your faith, God destroys what you have nurtured, so that He can bring about a new creation of His own.

Noah > Shem
Shem is mentioned in 17 verses of the Bible. His name is the original derivation of the word Semitic, the root of the word Anti-semitic. 13 of the verses pertain to his lineage and/or the flood…

Genesis 6:10 - Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.

This morning, my devotional book cited Exdous 3:1-15. It is the account of Moses and the burning bush. What really caught my attention however was God’s answer when Moses asked what to say when people ask him God’s name…
14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
15 God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’
“This is my name forever,
the name you shall call me
from generation to generation.
Though a Christian, note that I …
