Science

youth ministryScience in Scripture

The GeoCreationist approach toward science and Genesis is to assume that the writer of scripture was writing from the perspective of his contemporaries. For example, Moses (if we're talking Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, or Deuteronomy) was raised with an Egyptian background. The assumption is that his scientific understanding was that of the Egyptians of his time, and they left records of what they believed. Therefore, we should expect to find scientific assertions in his writing that are not true. For example, the sun does not exist in a vault below the upper waters.

On the other hand, Moses was trying to describe what really happened. If we forgive his scientific ignorance, then the events he is writing of come through loud and clear. For example, the sun appears against a blue sky. Whether the blue is the color of the upper waters or simply a result of the the sun refracting through the atmosphere is not his point. On Day 3, there was no visible sun; on Day 4, there was. The scripture is true.

Background

What is Science? - Basic principles about science, such as the Scientific Method, the predictive value of theories, and when scientists are wrong.

Scriptural Guide to Science - A careful reading of scripture produces amazing alignment with mainstream science

Creation Day 1

Zircon Crystals (3.9 Ga) - Zircon crystals reveal fascinating evidence in that the earth was covered in water (the deep) 4.4 billion years ago. Craters on the moon are evidence that the deep was covered in clouds, rain, and darkness 3.9 billion years ago

Appearance of Organic Cells (Evolution) - The first detectable cells date back to 3.5 Ga (billion years ago)

Creation Day 2

Fossilized Bacteria (3.5 Ga) - Fossilized bacteria give us our first evidence of a vault (or firmament) around the earth. There was still no land

Creation Day 3

Plate Tectonics (2.5 Ga) - Though mountains appeared underwater toward the end of Day 2, they appeared as dry land on Day 3.

Evolution of Plants (Evolution) - The Evolution of plants started with the symbiosis of eukaryotes and prokaryotes

Creation Day 4

Clearing of Atmospheric Haze (1.9 Ga) - Plants cleared up an early haze of methane and Carbon Dioxide, seeding the earth with Oxygen

Creation Day 5

The KT Impact - Without natural predators, sealife and birds could now flourish

Evolution of Fish and Birds (Evolution) - Fish and birds flourished "according to their kinds" after the KT Impact 65 Ma

Evolution of Whales (Evolution) - Whales evolved from land mammals 45 Ma, 12 million years before the land mammals of Creation Day 6

Creation Day 6

Evolution of Cattle, Creeping Things, and Beasts (Evolution) - After the Grand Coupure, the earth brought forth cattle, creeping things, and beasts, according to their kinds

Evolution of Homo Sapiens (Evolution) - After the appearance of Homonids 5.5 Ma, Homo Sapiens would eventually evolve aroud 250 Ka

The Flood

Dating the Flood - Discovery of the Burckle Crater, and correlation with ancient flood myths may provide an approximate date for a flood-based global catastrophe.
